US Eagle Community Investments During 2021
In 2021, US Eagle Federal Credit Union invested over $313,000 into our communities through non-profit organizations as well as our own programs and initiatives. The following programs highlight some of US Eagle’s commitment to helping our communities.
enrichEd® Classroom Grant:
Each year, US Eagle selects ten classrooms to receive $1,000 to enhance the learning experience. Here are the recipients for 2021: - Amy Biehl Community School
- Career Enrichment Center
- Country Club Elementary
- Early College Academy
- Esperanza Elementary School
- Enchanted Hills Elementary School
- Hayes Magnet School
- Heights Middle School
- Mandela International Magnet School
- Tony Hillerman Middle School
Flight Crew, our internal employee-run community engagement team, decided to sponsor three additional schools this year: - Ernest Stapleton Elementary School needed funding for new school furniture. The student's desks and chairs were outdated and too small for the children.
- Hawthorne Elementary School wanted to provide students with a calming corner rather than asking them to leave the classroom when interrupting.
- Vision Quest Alternative Middle School wanted to create a snack corner for the students. For several of their students, lunch is the only meal they receive for the day. The funding is used to purchase nutritious snacks for the children to enjoy in-between classes to ensure they are fueled and ready to learn.
Utility Assistance: The pandemic impacted many individuals and families in our community, causing many to fall behind on their monthly expenses. Therefore, in recognition of GivingTuesday, we decided to partner with the New Mexico Gas Company for the second year to select 100 households across Albuquerque, Bernalillo, Santa Fe, and Farmington that were behind on their bills and credited $100 to each of their accounts.
Community Partnerships:
Rio Grande Food Project:
The Rio Grande Food Project has been a valued partner of our Credit Union for many years. Every month, employees volunteer to help with the food distribution, repackage food, restock shelves, and prepare food boxes. Due to the pandemic, RGFP had to shift its distribution model and administer outdoor drive-thru food distributions.
Casa Esperanza
Casa Esperanza has been a Community Partner of US Eagle since 2005. Aside from monetary donations, employees volunteer every other Tuesday to prepare meals for Casa's residents.
Explora
Our newest Community Partner since 2020! US Eagle has committed to help fund the new Explora X-Studio, phase one of their Cradle through Career STEAM Learning Campus. As their premier financial literacy partner, US Eagle is not only playing a fundamental role financially but committed to mentoring the teens participating in the program as well as providing valuable workshops. US Eagle employees have already hosted Mad City Money workshops for the Explora Internship Program. Meals on Wheels
Every week US Eagle Employees deliver meals to the homebound to ensure Meals on Wheels clients receive needed nutrition with a friendly face. Due to COVID-19, our employees could only deliver meals from June through December this year but still managed to distribute over 270 during this time frame.
NM Connected Academy
In 2019, we joined forces with other New Mexico credit unions and each year donate $85,000 to the University of New Mexico Children's Hospital through the Credit Union for Kids program. Our donation helps support the Connected Academy, a non-profit organization focused on providing the funding to employ an accredited full-time teacher at the UNMCH Child Life wing. This initiative keeps children being treated at UNM Children's Hospital for chronic illnesses from falling behind in school. The program also provides the young patients with a sense of normalcy during these difficult times. Our continued efforts, such as our reusable bag fundraiser, will aid in the continuation of this great cause.
Collective Spark:
The US Eagle Foundation partnered with the Rio Grande Food Project and the Supportive Housing Coalition to raise funds for families in need.
Collective Spark is an initiative to help families and individuals in New Mexico who are in need of extra financial assistance to pay their mortgage or rent. We hope to raise $86,000 in recognition of our 86 years serving the financial needs of New Mexicans.
The US Eagle Foundation donated the first $20,000 and has raised nearly $10,000 in additional funding through its membership and community supporters. The US Eagle Foundation is a non-profit 501c3 created by US Eagle Federal Credit Union to work for the greater good of our communities through collaborative efforts with corporate partners and individuals who also share our wish to make life better for all.
