CU SAFE Helps Survivors
Three credit unions and the Domestic Violence Resource Center in Albuquerque have formed a partnership called the Credit Union Survivor Alliance for Financial Empowerment, or CU SAFE, that will help survivors of domestic violence get the financial support they need to put their lives together.
The three participating credit unions are US Eagle, Rio Grande CU, and Coast360. CU SAFE provides financial, mental and physical health, and a number of other benefits to survivors of domestic violence, over a 12-month time frame.
“Through great collaboration and strategy, we are ready to deliver products and services,” said Marsha Majors, CEO of US Eagle FCU. “We’ve developed a strong relationship with our partners Coast360 FCU and RGCU and are proud that our new US Eagle Foundation can help this groundbreaking project get started. We made a commitment to help New Mexicans because we believe that we are stronger together.”
To receive CU SAFE program benefits, the request needs to be initiated by the DVRC. While Credit Unions are major partners in the CU SAFE Program, the DVRC is the overall program administrator.
“We can’t thank the team from CU SAFE enough for their help, encouragement, and support,” said Vincent Galbiati, executive director of the DVRC. “Most victims of Domestic Violence leave their relationships financially destitute. This is a new idea, and a new way to help people. This type of financial support will help our clients re-start their lives.”
