US Eagle Celebrates Open, Voluntary, and Diverse Membership on International Credit Union Day
On October 15th, US Eagle celebrated International Credit Union Day. In a tradition that began in 1948, this annual celebration observes what it means for members around the world to have a credit union as their financial partner.
This year's global health crisis has been challenging for many communities around the world, but credit unions have stayed true to their cooperative principles and stepped up during this time of economic uncertainty. This year's International Credit Union Day theme, “Inspiring Hope for a Global Community,” reflects how credit unions contribute to a brighter future by providing financial empowerment to people all over the world by providing financial services, financial education, and community support.
While our celebration this year was far from traditional, we used the power of social media to celebrate and spread awareness about the credit union movement. In case you missed it, see below for some of this year’s highlights:
We kicked off the month of October with a Facebook coloring contest!
This wasn’t just for the kids - coloring has been shown to help adults combat stress, and allows your mind to get some rest after a long day at work (who couldn’t use a distraction these days?). Participants uploaded their masterpieces to the comments of the Facebook post. We also encouraged multiple entries as a way to get the whole family involved. Three lucky recipients were awarded a $50 gift card to a local New Mexico favorite, Theobrama Chocolatier, on International Credit Union Day

|
“Open, voluntary, and diverse membership,” a credit union cooperative principle, was celebrated on October 14.
US Eagle donated multicultural art supplies to the program participants of Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Juan County. “Littles” and even some “Bigs” created self-portraits with Crayola's "Colors of the World" line. As a bonus, we asked participants to include one sentence that says what they like most about themselves or what makes them special.
