International Credit Union Day – October 20th
For the history buffs, on January 17, 1927, the Credit Union League of Massachusetts celebrated the first official holiday for credit union members and workers. They selected January 17 because it was the birthday of America's "Apostle of Thrift," Benjamin Franklin (1706–1790), who early credit union founders believed symbolized "the life and teaching embodied in the spirit and purpose of credit unions."
Spring forward to current times, International Credit Union Day has moved to October and this year’s theme of “Empower Your Financial Future With A Credit Union™,” couldn’t be truer. A credit union is the perfect place to empower your financial future. And US Eagle is here to support you. We believe knowledge is power – especially when it comes to your finances. Financial wellness is happiness, it does mean a better life. It doesn't matter how much money you have; what does matter is how well you manage it. If you’ve got questions, our EverFi-certified Financial Wellness Coaches have answers – and they’ll offer them for free. All you need to do is schedule a time that works best for you at useagle.org – just look for the ‘Schedule An Appointment’ tab on our homepage.
Or, if you’d like to learn more online, we have fantastic self-learning tools at peoplemeanmore.org. We want you to live the best life possible and to feel empowered. It just takes one of the first, small and easy steps above. Oh, and by the way, while we can credit Ben Franklin with having some influence on the birth of International Credit Union Day, contrary to popular belief, he didn’t invent daylight savings time. That credit goes to New Zealand entomologist (he dug bugs) George Hudson. Don’t forget to set your clock back one hour on Sunday night, November 6th. Unless, of course, you want to show-up early to work on Monday.

October is Cyber Security Awareness Month
How many times have you received fraudulent emails, strange phone calls or unsolicited texts? You’re not the only one. We personally receive them, too. Consumer fraud is on the rise. Not just here, but across the U.S. – costing people billions. But you can protect yourself from fraud as it’s often caused by people being misled into voluntarily giving their information. As part of Cyber Security Awareness Month, we’re sharing some helpful information. We will never reach out to you with an ‘out-of-the-blue’ call, text or email asking you to verify your information. The only way a fraudster will get your information is if you give it to them. If someone calls saying they’re from US Eagle or another of your financial service providers and asks for your personal information, hang-up. And then call us to report it You will never receive a text from US Eagle notifying you of account issues, asking you to click on links or share personal/account information. Contact us and delete the text. You will never receive an unsolicited email from US Eagle notifying you of account issues or asking you to click on links to share personal/account information. If any email you receive from anyone – even those from names you know – looks suspicious, do not click on any links in the email. Some additional tips: - Update your computer, browsers, and mobile devices. Ensure you have the latest versions of software.
- Establish unique and strong login credentials. Be sure to create a password that you use only with US Eagle and nowhere else, and periodically change it.
- Use two-step verification. You’ll get a unique security code each time you access your accounts.
- Look out for ‘pay yourself’ scams. Scammers can impersonate an established individual or company, asking you to send money because of ‘mysterious activity’ on your account. Don’t do it. Always confirm who you’re sending money to and verify the number if you’re using Zelle®.
- Be careful of attempts to gain remote access to your devices. An unknown company or person will request remote access to your phone or computer, asking you to download an app to ‘fix an issue.’ Don’t let them do it.
- Be on the lookout for unidentified callers indicating they “can’t hear you well.” They may then ask if you can hear them. Don’t say, ‘Yes.’ Tell them to call you back on a ‘better line’ or simply hang-up. They may be trying to record your voice saying, ‘Yes’ for fraudulent voice ID purposes.
- Look-out for fake websites. Legitimate-looking websites are being created by scammers, and a quick Google search will lead you to a real-looking phone number. When you call, they’ll try to obtain your sign-in details or other information. Verify the authenticity and safety of a site by looking for the ‘padlock icon’ in the site URL and try ‘hovering over’ the URL with your mouse (if it doesn’t match, that’s usually a sign something’s not right). Double-check the provider before making online purchases.
The bad guys never quit working, but neither do we. We do our best to protect your information and we hope the above will help you protect yourself. A good option. If you don’t have ID theft protection, consider getting one of our checking accounts. ID Theft Aid is FREE with Life Essentials, Perks® and Perks® Plus Checking.* Visit GetThePerks.org. Above all, if anything ever looks or sounds suspicious, the best thing to do is CALL US: 888-342-8766 To Report Fraud To The Federal Trade Commission: 877-382-4357 (9:00 AM - 8:00 PM, ET) Online: ReportFraud.ftc.gov
